CHANDIGARH - In a bid to adopt the latest information and computer technologies and draft a roadmap for the next five years, the Chandigarh administration and Punjab government will jointly host a two-day IT (information technology) conclave here from Sep 29.

“E-revolution-2010″ is the sixth edition of this conclave, and prominent personalities including NASSCOM (National Association of Software and Services Companies) chief Som Mittal will deliver lectures during the meeting.

“The idea is to transform this region through extensive adoption of IT, both in the government as well as the private sectors,” said Sanjay Kumar, secretary, information technology and finance, Chandigarh, while talking to reporters Friday.

He added: “We would create a roadmap for both the governments (Punjab and Chandigarh) for the next five years, to work as more proactive enablers for transforming the region into a knowledge hub.”

Chandigarh administrator Shivraj Patil, who is also Punjab governor, will inaugurate this conclave.

Rakesh Verma, managing director of Punjab Infotech, said: “Information and computer technology is a veritable tool for the government for effective management and delivery of citizen-centric services. E-revolution-2010 would focus on the next big areas in technology and the new generation marketing tools like Web2.0, and other social media.”

“This region is taking special initiatives to promote linkages in the government, industry, and the academia on the one hand, as well as partnering with other key stakeholders like financial institutions, venture capitalists, infrastructure builders, human resource developers to lead towards success,” said Verma.
