Nestle unit in Himachal

DHARAMSALA - The Himachal Pradesh government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with dairy products major Nestle India to set up a food and beverage manufacturing unit in the state, a minister said here Monday.

The government has signed an MoU with Nestle to set up its unit at Talewal in Una district, Industry Minister Kishan Kapoor said in a written reply in the state assembly.

He said the company has also signed an agreement with the Himachal Pradesh Housing and Urban Development Authority to allot the land on lease for the unit.

According to the companys proposal, more than 1,000 people would be provided direct employment in the facility.

Under Himachal Pradesh laws, only permanent residents can buy land in the state. Others who want to purchase the land for non-agricultural purposes have to seek relaxations from the government under provisions of the Himachal Pradesh Tenancy and Land Reforms Act.

The five-day winter session of the assembly began here Monday.
