Andhra proposes 35 new trains for railway budget

HYDERABAD - Andhra Pradesh has sought 35 new trains in the railway budget 2011-12 and it will also take up with the railway minister the proposal for a wagon workshop at Kazipet and transforming Tirupati into a world-class railway station, an official release said Wednesday.
The state has proposed 17 new mail and express trains, including Kacheguda-Tirupati (via Dharmavaram, Pakala), Secunderabad-Howrah, Secunderabad-Kakinada, Hyderabad-Visakhapatnam, Tirupati-Guntur (via Tenali) and Karimnagar-Tirupati.
Some other trains the state has proposed are - Tirupati-Kadapa, Kurnool Town-Secunderabad-Vikarabad, Akola-Tirupati, Kacheguda-Thiruvananthapuram, Secunderabad-Vasco (via Guntakal, Bellari, Hubli), Hyderabad-Darbhanga, Secunderabad-Mangalore (via Guntakal, Bangalore), Kakinada-Mumbai (via Guntur, Secunderabad, Wadi) and Hyderabad-Jammutavi/ Amritsar/Chandigarh.
Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy Wednesday held a meeting with railway officials to review the state’s requirements.
“He will take up the requirements and other issues with Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee,” read a statement released by the chief minister’s office.
The railway officials told the chief minister that of 21 trains announced in 2010-11 budget, 16 have already been introduced and four trains are to be introduced soon.
The meeting also identified several projects mentioned in the 2010-11 budget, but they are yet to be sanctioned. They include new lines, doubling and electrification.
