SCHOTT to supply 20 MW solar power modules to Indian firm

HYDERABAD - SCHOTT Solar, German manufacturer of receivers for solar power plants, Tuesday started delivering 200,000 SCHOTT ASI photovoltaic modules to India’s Premier Solar for its solar power projects in the country.
The supply of the modules, which amount to 20 MW, began Tuesday. While half of the modules will be supplied by August 2011, the remaining will be delivered next year.
Under the Rs.200 crore agreement signed by the two firms in December last year, SCHOTT will also help Premier with the basic design and the preliminary engineering of the solar power plants.
Martin Heming, CEO, SCHOTT Solar AG, told a news conference said it was the biggest order for the company in Asia. The German firm has global revenues of 285 billion Euros.
Chiranjeev Saluja, managing director, Premier Solar, said the modules would be installed in states like Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand and Gujarat.
The modules will be used in the project that are part of the rooftop and small power plant scheme under phase I of the National Solar Mission of the new and renewable energy ministry. The mission has a goal of deploying 20 gigawatts of solar power by 2022 to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
