NEW DELHI - A new 750 MW gas-based power project will come up in Bamnauli in west Delhi at a cost of around Rs.1,600 crore, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said Monday.

“The plant will supply uninterrupted power to Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport, Dwarka and nearby localities and make Delhi a power surplus state,” she said.

Dikshit also said that commissioning of Bamnauli project will help the national capital to meet the fast-growing power needs of the city.

In a meeting of the Delhi cabinet, presided by Dikshit, it was also decided to award the Pragati II project to state-owned Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL).

The cabinet also sought allocation of around 3.5 MMSCMD (million standard cubic metres per day) of gas for the project but left it to the central government to take a final decision on the issue.
