Mukherjee pegs fiscal deficit at 4.6 percent for next fiscal

NEW DELHI - Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee Monday pegged the union government’s fiscal deficit at 4.6 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) for 2011-12, after bringing it down to 5.1 percent 2010-11 in the revised estimates.
Presenting the union budget for the next fiscal, the finance minister said the deficit will be brought down to this level from the originally proposed 5.5 percent of the GDP that was budgeted last year.
