Kan. regulators prep for Dodge casino opening

TOPEKA, Kan. — Kansas regulators are making preparations for the opening of a state-owned casino in Dodge City later this month.

The Racing and Gaming Commission plans to meet Friday in Dodge City to review security plans and internal financial controls at the Boot Hill Casino and Resort.

Executive Director Steve Martino says that if the commission approves the plans as expected, Boot Hill will get a temporary license to test equipment Dec. 9 and Dec. 14.

If those tests are successful, the commission would allow Boot Hill to open to the public on Dec. 15.

Boot Hill expects to open with about 580 slot machines and 10 game tables. About $88 million has been invested in building the casino.
