Filmmaker: Channels showed porn, not his comedy

COLUMBIA, S.C. — An independent filmmaker and former lawmaker from South Carolina is suing cable TV channels HBO and Showtime.

James “Bubba” Cromer claims in a lawsuit filed Monday in Los Angeles they promoted his comedy “The Hills Have Thighs,” then showed a soft-core pornographic film by the same name.

Cromer says the listings described his movie and his actors on The Movie Channel, owned by Showtime, and Cinemax, owned by HBO.

He says he told all his friends and colleagues to watch, but they ended up seeing the other film with nudity and other sexual content.

Cromer is asking for an unspecified amount of damages. HBO says it never promoted Cromer’s film.
