Swiss antitrust regulators probe Nikon subsidiary

GENEVA — Swiss antitrust regulators said Thursday they are investigating a subsidiary of Japanese camera maker Nikon Corp. on suspicion of anticompetitive practice.

The Competition Commission said the probe started Wednesday and that regulators have searched a home.

They are examining whether Swiss subsidiary Nikon AG was preventing other companies from importing some of its photography products.

A statement didn’t provide further information.

Nikon AG confirmed that the commission opened its investigation, and that officials obtained information from the company’s headquarters near Zurich on Wednesday.

“Nikon cooperated in every way and helped collect the necessary documents for them to take,” said spokesman Hans Klaus.

He said the company couldn’t comment further because it has yet to learn the details of the investigation. It will know more in the next three to six weeks, he said.
