ABU DHABI - The Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) will turn off the lighting system of its second runway here to observe Earth Hour Saturday, WAM News Agency reported.

ADAC said the airport will remain operational, although the lighting system of its second runway will be turned off between 08.30 and 09.30 p.m. in support of the Earth Hour campaign to promote energy conservation.

All inbound and outbound flights scheduled during Earth Hour will use the airport’s other runway.

In addition, the ADAC will either dim or completely switch off non-essential lighting in the terminal buildings, management offices and other selected airport locations.

We are pleased to be taking part in such an important global initiative and hope our passengers enjoy celebrating it with us,” said Ahmad Al Haddabi, an official of the ADAC.

The reduction of lighting at the selected facilities will be done in accordance and full compliance with international aviation standards, and will have no impact on the operation.
