Euro stuck below $1.22

BERLIN — The euro is little changed against the dollar ahead of a closely watched U.S. jobs report, trading not far above four-year lows.

The currency bought $1.2184 in early Friday European trading, near its level of $1.2182 in New York late Thursday.

The euro has dropped on worries about Europe’s prospects and spending cuts in the wake of the eurozone debt crisis.

It sank as low as $1.2112 earlier this week.

U.S. data have been mixed, and markets have been awaiting monthly Labor Department job figures due Friday for direction.

The British pound bought $1.4636 Friday — barely changed from Thursday’s level of $1.4633. The dollar hardly moved against the yen, ticking down to 92.67 from 92.68 yen, after Naoto Kan’s election as Japan’s new prime minister.
