India, UK ink pact to cooperate in highway sector

NEW DELHI - India and Britain have signed a pact for cooperation in building highways and developing the transport sector, the transport ministry said here Thursday.

The pact was signed by Road Transport and Highways Minister Kamal Nath and his British counterpart Philip Hammond in London Monday.

As per the pact, the two countries would have consultations and exchange information on best practices in the areas of motor vehicle testing, driver training and delivering and maintaining of highway networks, said the ministry.

Nath Tuesday addressed a conference on highways infrastructure organised by Confederation of Indian Industries and Confederation of British Industries, asking financial institutions to invest in road construction in India.
