MUMBAI - Air India will operate two special flights from Mumbai and New Delhi to Tripoli early Saturday morning to pick up Indians stranded in Libya, an airline official said.

The flights are scheduled to depart for the Libyan capital around 1.30 a.m. early Saturday morning.

The flight from Mumbai will be a Boeing 737-400 with a capacity of 400, while the flight from New Delhi will be an Airbus 330 with a capacity of 250.

The flights are scheduled to return by Sunday with the Indians stranded in the North African country, which has been hit by a wave of anti-government protests seeking the ouster of Muammar Gaddafi, Libya’s ruler for nearly four decades.

There are an estimated 18,000 Indians in Libya.
