Rocket with commercial satellite launches in Fla.
CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — An Atlas 5 rocket has launched from Florida with a satellite expected to provide high-powered video and data to much of the world.
The rocket lifted off into a clear sky just before 2 a.m. Monday from Cape Canaveral after several weather delays. The Intelsat-14 is a commercial satellite but also has components for the Defense Department’s Internet Router in Space program.
Once in place, the satellite will be able to provide video and data services to customers in the western hemisphere, Europe and Africa.
Its scheduled Nov. 14 launch was scrubbed after an electrical glitch.
The Intelsat-14 has an expected 15-year life span.
