Obama: US looking for Chinese currency to rise
TORONTO — President Barack Obama says the U.S. anticipates China’s currency will rise significantly as market forces come to bear.
Obama made his comments Sunday at the close of the G-20 summit in Toronto.
China said ahead of the summit it would start allowing its currency to rise in value against the dollar. But senior Chinese officials have pledged during this weekend’s meetings that outside pressure will not force them to let the yuan strengthen more quickly.
Obama said that the “proof of the pudding is going to be in the eating” on the new policy.
