NELLORE, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative has plans to enter into a joint venture with a foreign collaborator to rake in the profits to be obtained from the growing demands of milk in many countries around the world. Speaking at a press conference last week Monday was U. S. Awasthi, Managing Director of IFFCO, who announced that the company would finalize its collaboration plans in a couple of months with either an American or a New Zealand firm.

The upcoming venture by the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative will require an investment worth Rs. 1 crore said Mr. Awasthi. The new project is to be set up at the SEZ that is coming up in Andhra Pradesh, for which the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative will have to purchase 6,000 high-breed cattle stocks which will reportedly yield a total quantity of one million liters of milk everyday.

While Amul is the by far the biggest player in the milk industry in India, the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative too promises to give good competition. IFFCO plans to set up a milk brand selling the IFFCO Doodh and milk products like the IFFCO Cheese and Butter in domestic and foreign markets. It is to be remembered that India is the largest producer of milk in the world producing 108 million tonnes of the liquid every year. This figure is projected to see a rise in the near future standing at 180 million tonnes by 2021. The Kisan SEZ that the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative plans to set up at Nellore in Andhra Pradesh where the joint undertaking will be set up will be spread over an area of more than 2500 acres.
