COIMBATORE - With the Independence Day around the corner, the national flag manufacturing industry in Coimbatore is expediting the business and working overtime to complete their orders.
“We, on an average, make nearly 6,000 flags in a day. The ink, which we use, does not fade away generally, and we use only the best available ink for the national flag. We neatly mix the colours and print it on the flags. We use PVC ink which is best among the available ones and take utmost care while manufacturing it,” said Jaikumar, a manufacturer.
Jaikumar added that the flags are supplied to various south Indian states like Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
Over 80 percent of national flags are manufactured in Coimbatore.
“We manufacture mainly six varieties of flags with 3 types of materials. There is cotton, polyester and satin material, which we generally use. We make them in different sizes according to the demands, and send it to various parts of the country. As far as the demand is concerned, it is increasing year after year and the main reason for it is increasing sense of nationhood among the people,” said Kannan, a flag designer. By Jehovah G (ANI)
