China to build airport in desert

BEIJING - China plans to build an airport in a desert to benefit oil exploration, a media report said.

The Civil Aviation Administration of China plans to build an airport in the Taklimakan desert, which will be the first airport built in the country’s desert region, China Daily quoted Beijing Daily as reporting.

The airport is expected to benefit oil exploration and rescue work in the desert.

Four new airports are planned for the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region during the 12th five-year plan that is from 2011 to 2015.
