KOLKATA - Asia’s largest chain of hospitals, Apollo Group is looking at business opportunities in Nigeria and Uganda, a senior company official said here Monday.

“The capital we have right now is India focused. We have India as the first priority. But if we get phenomenal opportunities then we would surely invest in the African continent,” Group Managing Director Preetha Reddy told mediapersons here on the sidelines of the launch of the Bone Marrow Transplantation Unit in the Apollo hospital.

“Right now we are looking into opportunities in Nigeria and Uganda,” said Reddy.

But she pointed out that the biggest problem in investing in Africa is lack of trained manpower.

“The biggest challenge in investing in private hospitals in Africa is lack of trained manpower. The problem is that doctors and trained nurses are not willing to go there,” said Reddy.
