Sensex closes 128 points lower

MUMBAI - Indian equities markets Tuesday closed 128 points lower as weakness persisted across the breadth of the market on a volatile trading day.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 18,390.72 points, closed at 18,310.47 points (provisional), down 127.84 points or 0.69 percent from its previous close at 18,438.31 points.
The 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange closed 0.83 percent lower at 5,472.65 points.
Broader markets were also in the red, with the BSE midcap index down 0.91 percent and the BSE small cap index trading 0.71 percent lower.
Capital goods, auto and banking stocks were in the red, while energy and consumer durables scrips saw some buys.
