Power producer starts first supercritical tech unit

RAIPUR - India’s largest power producer NTPC Ltd has commissioned its first supercritical technology-based unit at Sipat in Chhattisgarh, an official said Thursday.
“The 660 MW coal-fired unit was synchronized with grid Feb 18 at Sipat, it is the first supercritical technology based unit of the NTPC in India,” the company official told IANS.
Sipat is based in Bilaspur district, some 125 km from state capital Raipur. The total project capacity of the Sipat project will be 2,980 MW when its all five units are commissioned.
The NTPC already had two units each of 500 MW at Sipat that were made operational in 2008. It added another unit of 660 MW Feb 18 while two other units of 660 MW each will be made operational within next 12 to 15 months.
