Drug makers, insurers, suppliers send Haiti $15.5M

TRENTON, N.J. — Drug and medical product makers and other health care companies say they’ll give more than $15 million in products and cash to help Haiti’s earthquake victims.

That amounts to almost one-third of the roughly $48 million worth of donations announced by corporations and their foundations so far.

Besides cash, pharmaceutical companies and medical product makers are sending supplies to treat injured people, plus medicines for patients who’ve lost their supply.

So far, the charitable alliance Partnership for Quality Medical Donations says 10 of its biggest members alone have pledged a total of $7.3 million worth of product donations, plus $4.6 million in cash. That’s a total of nearly $12 million.
