ON Semiconductor reports 4Q profit
PHOENIX — ON Semiconductor Corp. reported a fourth-quarter profit as results weren’t hampered by a hefty goodwill impairment charge from a year ago.
The chipmaker’s said it earned $68 million, or 15 cents per share, compared with a loss of $524.7 million, or $1.28 per share, during the same period a year prior. Revenue rose to $497.1 million from $488.7 million.
Excluding charges, the company said it earned 19 cents per share. Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected profit of 14 cents per share on revenue of $491 million.
For the full year, the company earned $61 million, or 14 cents per share, compared with a loss of $428.9 million, or $1.13 per share, in 2008. Revenue rose to $1.77 billion from $2.05 billion.
Looking ahead, the company expects first-quarter revenue between $515 million and $525 million. Analysts expect revenue of about $479.3 million.
Shares of ON Semiconductor rose 3 cents to $7.89 in after-hours trading after rising 5 cents to close at $7.86 during the regular trading session.
