German exports improve 0.2 percent in January from year-earlier level but slump from December

German January exports up 0.2 percent on year

FRANKFURT — Official data shows German January exports improved 0.2 percent compared with January 2009 but declined a sharp 6.3 percent from December.

The Federal Statistical Office said Wednesday Germany exported goods valued at nearly euro64 billion ($86.76 billion) and imported goods valued at euro56 billion during the month.

The Statistical Office says Germany exported nearly euro41 billion worth of goods to European Union states during January and over euro23 billion worth of goods to countries outside the EU.
