CALIFORNIA, (GaeaTimes.com)- Arnold Schwarzenegger, governor of California announced on Friday that the California budget this year will show a major cut down on the amount that was previously allocated to the health and welfare sector. With the state still being under the spell of recession that hit the whole of America three years back, the California budget for the year 2010 has been designed to cut down on unnecessary expenditure.

The California budget has been planned for the fiscal year 2010 beginning from the month of July onwards. With the state already running at a deficit of $19.1 billion, the administration governed by Arnold Schwarzenegger has been forced to cut down on the total budget amount of various sectors of the economy, particularly the health and welfare department. The total amount allocated for the general fund has reached its lowest count ever in the past six years with an amount of only $83.4 billion given to this sector.

The figures released for this year’s California budget points to the fact that not only the health and the general funds but also the education sector will be hugely affected by the decision taken by the Arnold Schwarzenegger administration. The local schools in the state will be barred from receiving the funds that was given to them earlier. This year’s budget also points to the fact that the state workers will no longer be eligible to receive the 60 percent of the state’s fund that was previously given for the treatment of mental health problems. Also, the proposed California budget may also cut down the wages of workers.
