GE Transportation wins Stockholm rail contract
ERIE, Pa. — General Electric Co.’s transportation unit said on Tuesday it won a contract worth about $43 million with a Swedish company to work on a new signaling facility for Stockholm’s light rail system.
The contract is between GE Transportation, based in Erie, and AB Storstockholms Lokaltrafik, Stockholm’s local transit company.
The new system in Stockholm and its suburbs will affect 49 stations and about 25 miles of railway and help the rail network expand. The system is intended to help trams run more frequently, reducing wait times for customers.
The first half of the project is to finish by December 2012, and the second in 2016.
Shares of General Electric slipped 5 cents to $15.36 in afternoon trading.
