Stocks take slide into 3rd quarter on job worries
NEW QUARTER, SAME STORY: The stock market opened the third quarter by falling again, this time on disappointing reports on jobs, housing and manufacturing.
PRE-JOBS REPORT ANXIETY: After a dismal second quarter, investors were particularly anxious as they awaited Friday’s release of the Labor Department’s June employment report. Analysts say investors are expecting the news to be bad, but if it’s not, the market might be able to rally.
THURSDAY’S PERFORMANCE: The Dow Jones industrial average fell almost 42 points. All the major indexes has moderate losses.
