SAN FRANCISCO (GaeaTimes.com)- In its attempt to build a social networking website that would be able to provide a tough competition to social networking giant Facebook, the Google Inc. on Sunday announced to media sources that it has acquired start-up Angstro. The news of the acquisition of Angstro was first announced on the website of the company by its founder Rohit Khare. However, none of the companies have disclosed the financial terms and conditions of the acquisition.
Angstro’s Rohit Khare on Sunday mentioned in the website of the company that the company would continue with its mission. He mentioned that in Google, he would continue to collect and sort out information about individuals found on the Web. According to Rohit Khare, the struggle for “open, interoperable social networks is still only just beginning”. As per the web post, Angstro’s services include applications that help to discover new photographs on social networking websites like Facebook, using LinkedIn profiles to bring improvement in Caller ID and help in creation of real-time social-address book reportedly.
Google has been trying for some time now to capture the web market of social networking which has stalwarts like Facebook as competitor. It seems that Google’s acquisition of Angstro is a part of the latter’s attempt to come up strong in the field of social networking. Google’s social networking product Google Buzz in the recent past received a wide spread negative feedback that resulted in the company making it an optional choice for the users. However, with its ongoing acquisition spree it seems that the company is trying its level best to come up with a social networking website different from any other on the web.
