CHENNAI - The Indian subsidiary of Japanese auto major Nissan recorded sales of 2,081 units in February, up from 44 units in the corresponding period last year, thanks mainly to its Micra model.

The growth is mainly driven by its compact car Micra, which accounted for 2,030 units as against 1,784 units sold in January 2011, according to a company statement Tuesday.

Nissan Motor India sold 10,225 Micras till February since July 2010 when sales started.

However, the company saw lower sales for its luxury sedan Nissan Teana, selling 14 units as against 23 sold in February 2010.

The company has sold 36 units of X-trail in February, up from 21 units sold in January 2010, and one unit of its sports car Nissan 370Z last month, the statement added.
