LA County tallies $19.8 million in wildfire damage
LOS ANGELES — Estimated damage to Los Angeles County infrastructure and other costs resulting from three summer wildfires now total $19.8 million.
Most of the damage totals released Thursday relate to the Station Fire, which burned 250 square miles of the Angeles National Forest. Fires also burned to the east in the San Gabriel Canyon area of the forest and on the Palos Verdes Peninsula.
The estimate covers items ranging from guardrails and road signs to electrical systems, installation of erosion barriers and cleaning out debris basins to prevent flooding.
The Station Fire also ran up $89 million in firefighting costs, and the California Department of Transportation put out $12 million in emergency contracts for highway repairs.
