MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — Intuit Inc. on Thursday said unit sales of its TurboTax federal income tax preparation products rose 11 percent early in this year’s tax season, compared with the same period a year ago.

Sales of the Web-based version posted the strongest gain among TurboTax products, with a 23 percent rise.
The desktop computer version fell 1 percent on a unit sales basis, and Web-based TurboTax Free File Alliance products also slipped 1 percent.
Dan Maurer, general manager of Intuit’s consumer group, said the company was “very pleased” with the early season results.
