Accelrys fiscal 4th-quarter loss widens
SAN DIEGO — Accelrys Inc., which makes software for managing scientific data, said Thursday that its fiscal fourth-quarter loss widened as increased expenses overshadowed revenue growth.
For the quarter ended March 31, Accelrys’ loss totaled $2.4 million, or 9 cents per share, compared with a loss of $2.2 million, or 8 cents per share, in the year-ago quarter.
Excluding one-time items, Accelrys reported a loss of 2 cents per share in the latest quarter.
Revenue rose 4 percent to $20.8 million.
Operating expenses rose 9 percent to $19.8 million. The increase was due mainly to higher sales and marketing expenses.
For the full fiscal year, Accelrys earned $1.2 million, or 4 cents per share, compared with profit of $94,000, or less than a penny per share, in the previous year. Revenue rose 2.4 percent to $68.6 million.
Shares of Accelrys fell 17 cents, or 2.3 percent, to close at $7.09.
