Nigeria: Shell says $1.1B oil pipeline nearly done

LAGOS, Nigeria — Royal Dutch Shell PLC says a $1.1 billion crude oil pipeline running through Nigeria’s restive southern delta is almost complete.

Shell issued a statement Monday saying the 97-kilometer (60-mile) Nembe Creek Trunkline will have the capacity to transport 600,000 barrels of oil a day. The pipeline will run from 14 flow stations in the delta to the Bonny export terminal.

Shell says the new line will replace an existing pipeline.

Shell, which discovered oil in Nigeria 50 years ago, remains the dominant oil major in the West African nation. Its Nigerian subsidiary, Shell Petroleum Development Co., partners with the state-run Nigerian National Petroleum Corp. and other foreign oil firms.
