Bush speaks in Colo. after scheduled Cheney visit
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Former President George W. Bush spoke to an insurance industry meeting in Colorado Springs on Tuesday, a day after former Vice President Dick Cheney was scheduled to appear before the same group.
Bush addressed the Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers at the Broadmoor, a luxury hotel at the foot of the mountains. The event was closed to the public, and Bush’s spokesman, David Sherzer, said he didn’t know what Bush’s topic was.
Cheney was to appear before the group on Monday. It wasn’t immediately clear if that happened, and neither Cheney’s spokesman nor officials with the insurance group immediately returned calls.
It wasn’t known whether their visits overlapped.
Bush and Cheney met for coffee in the Washington, D.C., area in February. It was believed to be their first reunion since leaving office.
About 15 to 20 people protested at the Broadmoor both Monday and Tuesday, said Bill Sulzman, director of Citizens for Peace in Space, a Colorado Springs group. Sulzman said the protest was peaceful and uneventful. A Colorado Springs Police spokesman didn’t immediately return a call Tuesday.
