Univision plans in-house studio for more content
MIAMI — Univision Communications Inc. is creating a new studio to provide the media company with more original content.
The nation’s largest Spanish-language media company announced Monday it will start up Univision Studios in Miami, run by industry veteran Luis Fernandez. The new division will produce telenovelas, reality shows and other programs for the company’s three networks: Univision, TeleFutura and Galavision. It will also produce programs for the Web and other platforms.
Fernandez joins Univision from Spanish Radio Television Corp., Spain’s leading broadcast company.
Mexico City-based Televisa has long produced much of Univision’s content, but that deal expires in 2017. By contrast, rival Telemundo produces the majority of its own shows.
