Train kills Ohio student, injures 2nd near school

HOLLAND, Ohio — An Amtrak passenger train struck two high school Ohio students crossing some tracks as they walked to school, killing one and critically injuring the other.

Authorities say the students were trying to beat the train Wednesday morning at a crossing next to Springfield High School in Holland, near Toledo. Several drivers who were stopped for the train saw the accident.

The Ohio Highway Patrol says 15-year-old Cody Brown was killed and 16-year-old Briana Mullinger critically injured.

The accident happened on a rail line that connects Chicago and the East Coast.

The Amtrak train was on its way from Washington to Chicago. No one on board was injured.
