Oshkosh Corp. receives $290M order from military

OSHKOSH, Wis. — The U.S. Army has ordered more than 725 supply trucks from the defense arm of Oshkosh Corp. in a deal worth $290 million.

Oshkosh Defense said Tuesday it expects to complete production by September 2011.

The vehicles are heavy-duty military trucks with large trailers. They’ve been used to transport weapons and other supplies to the front lines in Afghanistan and Iraq, and are designed so a single soldier can load or unload large containers in five minutes.

The Oshkosh, Wis.-based company has signed a number of lucrative deals with the Pentagon in the last year or so. Oshkosh is delivering more than 6,600 military trucks in a contract worth $3.3 billion.

Oshkosh shares rose 83 cents, or 2 percent, to close Tuesday at $38.87.
