SC ports to unveil concept for cruise terminal
CHARLESTON, S.C. — After months of meetings and planning, a South Carolina agency is unveiling a concept for a new cruise terminal to serve the state.
The South Carolina State Ports Authority said the concept will be shown at a community meeting Tuesday.
With a growing cruise business in Charleston, the authority announced last fall it was working with the city to replace the existing brick and cinderblock cruise terminal that is almost 40 years old.
A 55-acre tract on the waterfront around the terminal also is being redeveloped.
Carnival Cruise Lines this spring will permanently base its 2,056-passenger Carnival Fantasy in Charleston. The authority says there will be 67 cruise calls in the city this year.
