NPD Group acquires Solarbuzz market research firm

PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y. — Market research firm The NPD Group said Monday it has acquired Solarbuzz, a solar energy market research and consulting company.

The terms were not disclosed.

The NPD Group said Solarbuzz will complement its DisplaySearch unit — a research and consulting firm specializing in the $770 billion display supply chain as well as the emerging photovoltaic and solar cell industries.

Solarbuzz will keep its brand name, and DisplaySearch’s existing solar energy research reports and services will be folded into Solarbuzz’s product portfolio, the company said.

Tod Johnson, chairman and CEO of The NPD Group, said the company anticipates rapid expansion of the solar energy market as a result of increased government and industry efforts to promote renewable energy.
