Sapient 1st-quarter net income grows on revenue surge; 2Q revenue seen rising

Sapient beats 1Q forecast, sees further growth
BOSTON — Sapient Corp., which helps companies with technology needs, said Thursday its first-quarter net income rose 39 percent as revenue surged.
Net income in the three months to March 31 rose to $6.2 million, or 5 cents per share, from $4.5 million, or 3 cents per share, a year earlier.
Revenue rose 28 percent to $191.7 million from $149.3 million.
Excluding stock-based compensation and other charges, earnings hit 7 cents per share, beating the 4 cents per share expected by analysts polled by Thomson Reuters. Analysts were also looking for $180 million in revenue.
Shares rose 8 cents in after-hours trading to $9.84 on Thursday.
The company said it expected service revenue, which makes up the majority of its revenue, to be $194 million or higher in the second quarter through June.
