NJ plant that made ‘Shrek’ glasses studying recall
MILLVILLE, N.J. — The New Jersey company that makes the “Shrek”-themed drinking glasses recalled by McDonald’s because they contain cadmium says it only learned of the problem late Thursday and is looking into it.
Tom Reed, vice president of human resources at Arc International’s plant in Millville, says the company received a copy of a McDonald’s memo on the recall of 12 million glasses but has not heard anything else.
Reed would not say where the paint was made or whether it’s used in Arc’s other products. Arc is based in France and owns the Pyrex brand of cookware in Europe.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the voluntary recall Friday. It warned consumers to immediately stop using the glasses.
Cadmium is a toxic metal and known carcinogen.
