SAN FRANCISCO (GaeaTimes.com)- A few days back McDonald’s Corp., the biggest restaurant chain of the world hogged the limelight when it announced a recall of its special edition Shrek glasses. The recall made the buyers baffled initially as they could not understand how they should proceed. The glasses were recalled because they contain cadmium above the permissible level. Now the food chain is offering a refund of $3 per glass to the customers who are returning the glasses. The last Shrek movie which was released recently proved to be a hit and the Shrek glasses sold in record numbers. The company said in its website that the buyers can return the glasses they bought to any of the outlets of the food chain in the USA.
The McDonalds Shrek glass recall happened owing to a directive from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The cadmium used on the paintings on the glass is harmful for the users especially kids. They can develop lung diseases if they use these glasses for long. 12 million such glasses were made and out of the amount almost 7 million were sold. So far no injury or harm from the glasses has been reported but McDonald does not want to take any chances. The glasses have been made by a company named ARC International.
McDonald’s also said that the buyers would not have to bring the receipts for getting the refund when they return the glasses at any of its outlets. The company has also made it clear that the cadmium tainted glasses did not reach Russia.
