Zappos.com offers tours of quirky company culture
HENDERSON, Nev. — Online retailer Zappos.com is letting customers peek within its quirky company culture by offering regular tours of its Las Vegas-area headquarters.
The company and its chief executive, 35-year-old Tony Hsieh, have attracted a strong fan following over 11 years, with the company listed among Fortune’s 100 best companies to work for. Zappos is best-known for selling shoes and clothing, although they do carry some other products.
Tourists have ranged from college students to other business owners, the Las Vegas Sun reported.
Tours are given four times a day, four days a week at Zappos’ office. Highlights include themed cubicle pods, no dress code along with free food and massages, cowbells, noisemakers, Mardi Gras masks and mullet wigs.
The mullet wigs are more than a joke — they sum up the company’s corporate philosophy, says Jon Wolske, a Zappos culture guide.
“Business in the front, party in the back,” Wolske said.
Visitors can take a basic free tour or sign up for a more in-depth visit for $47 that includes a half-hour question-and-answer period. Details at www.zapposinsights.com/main/experiences/tours/.
