Abercrombie & Fitch July revenue comparison rises

NEW ALBANY, Ohio — Preppy teen clothing company Abercrombie & Fitch Co. said Thursday that revenue in its stores open at least a year rose 7 percent, easily beating analysts’ expectations.

Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters, on average, expected the figure to rise 4.1 percent.

Revenue at stores open at least a year is a key indicator of a retailer’s performance because it excludes results from stores that open or close during the year. The figure rose 10 percent at Abercrombie & Fitch stores, 1 percent at abercrombie children’s stores and 4 percent at surf-themed Hollister stores.

Total revenue rose 17 percent to $232.3 million in the four weeks ending July 31.

In the quarter, revenue at stores open at least a year rose 5 percent while total revenue rose 17 percent to $745.8 million. So far this year, the company’s net revenue has increased 16 percent to $1.43 billion, while revenue at stores open at least a year has risen 3 percent.

The company will release its official second-quarter results on Aug. 17.

Shares rose 94 cents, or 2.4 percent, to $39.74 during morning trading. The stock has traded between $28.76 and $51.12 over the past year.
