Pa. revokes home’s license after autistic man dies
PHILADELPHIA — Pennsylvania officials are closing a residence building and banning new admissions at a facility for the disabled following the death of an autistic man left in a hot van.
The Department of Public Welfare says eight clients must be relocated from the building at Woods Services in Langhorne, 25 miles northeast of Philadelphia.
The state has revoked the company’s license to operate the building. But the company operates several facilities serving 1,400 clients in the area.
A staff member has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and neglect for failing to remove Bryan Nevins from the van after an outing last month. Her lawyer says many people share the blame.
Woods Services denies there was gross incompetence, neglect or misconduct in operating its facility. It says it’s cooperating with authorities and is saddened by the man’s death.
