The End of The McMansions Draws Near

The “McMansions” or palatial homes were etched in the “American Dream” for a long time. But sadly the mansions are under severe threats from ordinances. Many towns across America are restricting these monstrous 3000 sq feet homes.
According to Trulia, a respected real estate website suggest that the property purchase trends of 2010 has seen a sharp dip. Their survey that records the home buying preference of American people, suggest that only a measly 9% of the candidates would like to own a house more than 3200 sqft. It seems that American People have become environmentally conscious, as they seem to prefer smaller homes that requires a low upkeep. In a definitive statement Trulia says “The McMansion Era Is Over”.
Kermit Baker, chief economist at the American Institute of Architects suggest that flamboyance has made way for practicality. The upkeep of A McMansion could end up costing more than the house itself on the long run. Or may be its the delayed backlash caused by the economic slump America is reeling from.
In what seems to be the last nail in the McMansions coffin, Texas recently reported a decline in the average size of the building from 22,00 sq ft from 2,500 sqft in 2005. The average square feet of the average American home was at its peak in the 2000 when it was 23,00 sq ft. A Seattle based filming house recently acquired a 10,000 sq ft McMansion as their work and office space. Thus we understand that given a creative way of utilising the property is the only way these houses, which double as the icon of American affluence could survive. What do you think should be done with the McMansions?
