Light rain, snow slow corn harvest in Minnesota

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Light rain and snow have further slowed the already late corn harvest in Minnesota.

In its weekly crop weather report for Minnesota, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said Monday that producers harvested 12 percent of the state’s corn crop last week, compared with 23 percent a week ago and 20 percent two weeks ago. The harvest total is 78 percent.

The average moisture of the corn being harvested remains high at 21 percent, which is 1 percentage-point below last week, but 4 points above the five-year average.

An average of 5.2 days were suitable for fieldwork last week. Light rain fell across many portions of the state last Monday into Tuesday with a mix of rain and snow Wednesday.
