Merck hires Michael Rosenblatt as executive vice president, chief medical officer

Merck names Tufts dean as chief medical officer
WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J. — Drugmaker Merck & Co. said Wednesday it named Michael Rosenblatt, Dean of Tufts University School of Medicine, as its chief medical officer.
Rosenblatt will also serve as executive vice president.
Merck said Rosenblatt will be the company’s main voice to the global medical community and speak about patient safety and other issues.
Before serving as Dean at Tufts University School of Medicine, he was George R. Minot Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Chief of the Division of Bone and Mineral Metabolism Research at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
Merck shares fell 25 cents to $37.76 during afternoon trading.
