Starwood plans 2 new luxury hotels in China
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. said it plans to open two luxury hotels in China in the next two years.
The hotel chain, based in White Plains, N.Y., said plans to reopen its renovated The Astor Hotel in May in Tianjin after spending $22 million to redo the 152-room hotel. It plans to open The Malus Sanya, a newly constructed 160-room resort in Sanya, in late 2012.
Both hotels will be part of the company’s Luxury Collection brand, which includes 70 resorts and high-end hotels in 30 countries around the globe.
Starwood shares rose 87 cents, or 2.3 percent, to $39.24 in midday trading Thursday.
