Verizon names former Clinton transportation secretary to its board

Verizon names ex-Clinton cabinet member to board
NEW YORK — Verizon Communications Inc. said Thursday that it has named a former U.S. secretary of transportation who served under President Bill Clinton to its board.
Rodney Slater will join Verizon’s board of directors, effective March 5.
Slater will be Verizon’s 13th board member.
He is a partner in the law firm of Patton Boggs LLP in Washington, where he specializes in transportation, infrastructure and public policy issues.
Slater also is vice chairman and senior adviser at James Lee Witt Associates, an emergency preparedness consulting firm in Washington.
He served under President Clinton from Feb. 1997 to Jan. 2001. Slater also sits on the boards of Delta Air Lines, ICx Technologies, Kansas City Southern and Transurban Group.
Shares of Verizon, based in New York, fell 55 cents to $28.64 in afternoon trading.
